Board of Directors

J. Richard Steadman, M.D., Director – Dr. Richard Steadman, a Texas native, is a well-known orthopedic surgeon who practiced in South Lake Tahoe for 20 years before relocating his practice to Vail, Colorado in 1990. In Vail, he practices at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic, with Dr. Richard Hawkins. The clinic focuses on sports medicine injuries and rehabilitation, and has recently added the sub-specialties of hand, wrist, spine, and trauma injuries.

In 1988, Dr. Steadman started a public charity foundation to do research to help solve the sports medicine problems that confront both amateur and professional athletes attempting to return to a high level of performance after injury. The foundation is now located in Vail, Colorado and has been renamed the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Foundation to incorporate his partner.

Dr. Steadman has published over 70 articles and book chapters and has presented at numerous national and international meetings. He has been Chairman of the Medical Group for the U.S. Ski Team since 1976, and is also a member of the Sports Medicine Committee of the US Alpine Ski Team. Besides his achievements in his profession, Dr. Steadman serves as Director for many different businesses that focus on applications surrounding medicine and the orthopaedic specialty.

Andreas Baenziger, M.D., Director – Dr. Andreas Baenziger is Cofounder and partner of MedWork AG (www.medwork.ch). He graduated from the University of Zurich, Switzerland with a degree in medicine and a post doctoral work. He specialized as an orthopaedic surgeon FMH from 1987 to 1993. Then he joined a leading manufacturer of medical devices in Switzerland where he held over time several management positions. Finally he held the position as Executive Vice President for a business unit. During this period Andreas Baenziger accomplished a two year program for Executive Development at IMD Lausanne. From 1999 to 2001 he held a position as CEO of a private Swiss biotech company, since early 2002 he became Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of HMT Holding and was part of the MBO of the HMT group 2002 and the merger with the HealthTroncis group in 2004, where he served as officer and director. Dr. Baenziger holds several board seats in the worldwide medical device community.

F. Lyon Steadman, CEO – Lyon brings a unique background and experience to the company. His experience as administrator for a world renowned orthopedic clinic brings the understanding of physician practice management and physician group dynamics that will be important to the development of tools to streamline administrative operations.

Liddy Lind, President – Liddy brings unique experience to the area of marketing. She has been a consultant for orthopedic practices and Marketing Director for an orthopedic device manufacturer for over 16 years. Her knowledge and experience in this industry is very helpful in establishing relationships with suppliers and marketers of medical products, as well as in helping physicians to build their personal brand on the web.

Soren Lind, Vice President of Operations – Soren is currently President of Medica, a provider of durable medical equipment solutions for orthopedic practices and patients. His knowledge and experience in handling reimbursement programs will be critically important when our company brings the e-commerce phase of the business to the sites.

Marc Lindblad, COO – Over the last twenty years, Marc has been involved in many areas of the sales and marketing process for the medical industry. He started as a field sales representative for Innovation Sports, a leading orthopaedic and sports medicine products company, where he was promoted to a Marketing position to manage and develop their corporate Web site. Marc has honed his Web development skills through education, as well as on-the-job experience. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing from California State University, Fullerton.

Medical Advisory Board

John A. Feagin, M.D., Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board – Dr. Feagin currently serves as Associate Professor Emeritus Duke University, Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Foundation. Dr Feagin retired from the US Army in 1979 after 24 years of service. He enjoyed private practice in Jackson, Wyoming from 1979-1989 and subsequently served at Duke University as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomechanics, Chief of Orthopaedics at the Veterans Hospital and Team Physician for Duke Basketball, until his retirement in 1999. Dr Feagin resides in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Don T. Kirkendall, Ph.D., Director of Medical Content – Dr. Kirkendall has a Ph.D. in exercise physiology and has been instrumental in the writing of several books on Sports Medicine. He is on the faculty of the Orthopedic department at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Prior to joining the University of North Carolina, he was on the orthopedic faculty of Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He has served both as editor and freelance writer for many different sports medicine publications.

William E. Garrett, Jr., Ph.D. – Dr. Garrett is currently the Chairman of Orthopedics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Prior to joining UNC, he was with the Department of Orthopedics at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

Savio Woo, Ph.D. – Dr. Woo is currently Vice-Chairman for Research and Director for the Musculo-skeletal Research Center in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. He also holds Professorships in the departments of Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Rehabilitation Science and Technology. Prior to joining University of Pittsburgh, he was Professor of Surgery and Bioengineering at the University of California at San Diego.

Charles J. Dillman, Ph.D. – Dr. Dillman is presently CEO of the Aspen Foundation for Sports Medicine. Prior to joining the Aspen Foundation for Sports Medicine he was CEO of Znetix, and Group Vice President of Research and Development at Orthofix. He is also a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee and IOC Medical Commission as well as serving as Executive Director of the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Foundation. Dr. Dillman’s academic interest is in the area of biomechanics as it relates to sports injuries and performance.

Gary S. Fanton, M.D. – Dr. Fanton is practicing as an orthopedic surgeon for SOAR – Sports, Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Medicine Associates – in Menlo Park, California. He brings experience in the development of new technology used in specific surgical procedures in orthopedics. He is also a founding physician of the public company Oratec Interventions, which develops surgical tools that utilize heat for the treatment of specific soft tissue injuries in the shoulder and knee.

Charles P. Ho, M.D., Ph.D. – Dr. Ho is a practicing musculoskeletal radiologist in the San Francisco Bay area of California. He is medical director for the National Orthopedic Imaging Associates. He specializes in the interpretation of magnetic resonance images (MRI) and specifically, how they relate to joint and soft tissue injuries.

Medical Advisory Council

All of the members of our Medical Advisory Council help us a great deal by writing the outlines and assembling the references for our medical content. All the physicians have completed a post-residency fellowship program with a special concentration in a particular sub-speciality of orthopedic surgery.

Michael E. Berend, M.D. – Dr. Berend practices at Orthopedics Indianapolis at The Center for Hip and Knee Surgery in Mooresville, Indiana along with Dr. Merill Ritter. He completed a six-month fellowship with Dr. T. Mooreman in Baltimore, Maryland and a six-month fellowship with Merrill Ritter, M.D. in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Paul R. Ellis, III M.D. – Dr. Ellis is a member of Lankford Hand Surgery Association at Dallas, Texas practicing at Baylor University Medical Center. He is Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical School and chief of the Hand Service at the Dallas VA Hospital. He is a diplomat of ABOS and a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He completed his hand surgery fellowship at the Christine Kleinert Institute in Louisville, Kentucky in 1989.

Laurence D. Higgins, M.D. – Dr. Higgins currently practices in Durham, North Carolina for Duke University Sports Medicine as a sports medicine physician. He takes care of many of the athletic teams for Duke University. He completed his fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh under Dr. Freddie Fu.

Mininder Kocher, MD, MPH – Dr. Kocher is an Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health. He practices sports medicine and pediatric orthopaedics at Boston Children's Hospital. He is the Director of the Harvard Orthopaedic Program in Clinical Effectiveness. He did fellowships in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Boston Children's Hospital and sports medicine at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic.

John Dietz, M.D. – Dr. Dietz practices as a spine surgeon for Orthopedics Indianapolis and has several office locations in the Indianapolis area. He completed his spine surgery fellowship at Swedish Hospital Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
